Artist Statement
I create eco-conscious sculptures and paintings inspired by years living face to face with mother nature on a rugged island in the St. Lawrence River, Canada. When climate events became a pattern of concern in 2012 I was compelled to respond. My art became a poetic exploration of changes in water, earth, and sky. Creating sculpture as tall as life with transformed raw materials taken directly from the earth became a powerful way for me to speak authentically about nature for nature.

My material focus incorporates a wide range of eco conscious media including stone, shell, copper, bone, and more. Sensory molten beeswax encaustic paint embellishes surfaces with colours and textures to evoke earth, water, and sky.

Sculptures as tall life suggest other worldly, surreal forms. At times iconic, they leave room for viewer interpretation. Human stories are embedded in many works. For example, my recent series Veritas is a sculptural installation presented as a journey through ancient myths reconsidered in this complex contemporary moment.

Our ancestors were once deeply connected to nature. Our human DNA pulls us toward it. I create to rekindle a love for the natural world that sustains us. I create as a gesture of hope.
