Veritas
I create art as a response to life, so it follows that the dark complexities of contemporary times call for new sculptures and reliefs presented as a journey called Veritas, an old latin word for truth. In the context of 'now' the redefinition of accepted personal truths may lead us out of the dark.
My process begins with foraged shoreline wood, bone, and vintage wood industrial pieces assembled as sculptures paired with wall reliefs that suggest the great cosmic beyond.
An array of unusual organic material such as bones, shells, carved wood, and encaustic paint lead the viewer into the journey. With each work I examine old mythic truths that beg for a timely transformation in our current context yet allow room for viewer response.
The installation features sculptures and wall pieces including a pearlescent gnarled Bocca (mouth) asking for truth, a pair of bejewelled Oracles answering complex questions and twelve Goddesses who reclaim the feminine divine.
Veritas is my personal quest to discover truth, grace, and light in challenging times.
I offer Veritas now, when the old word for truth is broken.
We know that truth matters.
With this art, I search, I reach, and create.
